Growth Dimensions' Kishwaukee Riverfront Development Initiative aims to connect Boone County communities through a multi-use recreational path system. In the efforts to further path development, the First Annual Harvest Fest is taking place on October 23, 2010. The event is being held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Belvidere Park and then activities will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Spencer Park.
- The fun begins at 9:00 a.m. with numerous FREE activities
- Walk thru the Scarecrow Contest where uniquely designed Scarecrows line the path, Scarecrow Contest is open to everyone!
- Folk Art vendors will be displaying and selling their wares.
- A Farmers Market will have delicious local foods for sale.
- For the adults, Wine Tastings will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Baltic Mill.
- Tours will be given in the historic section of the Baltic Mill by local historian, George Thomas.
- A Children's Area will entertain your little ones and "little ones at heart" with a Pumpkin Moonwalk, Build Your Own Scarecrow and Pick- a-Pumpkin.
- The fun continues at Boone County Conservation District at 5:00 p.m. with Horse drawn wagon rides and a bonfire where you can enjoy gooey s'mores!
A story teller will share festive tales and fireside music will fill the evening autumn air.
- The evening will be topped off with an old fashion Square Dance in the Pavilion under the twinkling stars.
There are currently 6.86 continuous miles completed that stretch from Doty Park through Belvidere Park, the Boone County Conservation District and on to Prairie Fields. *All proceeds benefit the Kishwaukee Riverfront Path Development For more information, please contact the Growth Dimensions' office at 815-547-4252.
